The Serve South Africa internship program has been in the works for a long time and is finally going to be realized this Summer when 8 interns arrive in Pretoria to help with the work God is doing through Abba's Pride.
We have been tasked with overseeing these interns and the work they will be doing. Our prayer is that each intern will grow personally as well as advance the kingdom of God by completing a ministry project. These ministry projects will be chosen in such a way as to match each intern's spiritual gifts with the needs identified in each of our partner church's communities. Our biggest tasks will be to help each intern choose, plan, and implement their ministry project while discipling them so that they grow in their own spiritual walk.
We have very high expectations for this internship as we have already seen God provide in miraculous ways to bring all of these interns together and make it financially possible for each of them to spend 6 weeks in South Africa. We believe not only will God change the lives of the interns while participating in this ministry, but God will also make a sustainable difference in each of our partner churches that will last long after this year's interns return home.
Currently, we are praying that God would keep our entire team healthy and focused as we prepare to start the internship in 1 week. Also, we are praying for our ability to hear clearly from God in how to direct our interns' projects as well as how to meet their spiritual needs as their mentors.
As our interns will be studying 1 Peter during their time here, I thought it appropriate to close with a piece of scripture that I hope embodies our work this summer:
"Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us." 1 Peter 2:12
