Tuesday night we had a man from the church we were working with come and ask us, “So what is the difference between life in Maubane and life in the United States?” I was shocked. No one has ever asked me that question. Thankfully, the leader of our group said, “Brian, the way I see it is Maubane has it’s good and bad things. America has it’s good and bad things. For instance, America has a lot of material things that Maubane does not. But Maubane has “Ubuntu” which means it takes a village to raise a chid; however, America has more of a “Me, Myself, and I” mindset.”
The next morning as I was standing outside brushing my teeth, I looked out and all i could see was dirt roads and small houses. I thought to myself, “God, I sense you here. How often do I miss you in the hustle and bustle of my life. In all the “material blessings” that pull me further from you? What if we have it all wrong?" Of course, I’m not saying we sell everything, and have nothing. But there is something to be said for the simplicity of just relying on the Lord. I heard this quote a couple years ago and it rang true this week. “You’ll never know that Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have.”
